About Radical Hive

The Radical Hive is the central hive of Brian Garside, full time web guru and part time comics pimp.

This site replaces my old home Chronicology, the life and times of Brian Garside. The name is easier to remember, and inspired me with a cooler logo and iconography.

Radical Hive is built using the latest version of WordPress. The website is hosted by HeadsDown Content management, and it’s my first attempt at a WordPress based site.

Chronology of the personal websites of Brian Garside:

January, 1995 - May 17, 2001 - Tales from the Darkside lived through several incarnations including informal weblogs on Geocities and Tripod before eventually finding a home through Blogger

May 18, 2001 - Tales from the Darkside begins using Blogger as the content tool of choice.

August 25, 2004 - Tales from the Darkside officially becomes “Chronicology, the Life and Times of Brian D Garside”

April 1, 2005 - moved the site from Blogger over to the HeadsDown Content Management system where it lived for nearly three years. The Archives remained in Blogger format, and archives were divided into the pre-HeadsDown ghetto, and a current area with categories and sorting.

February 6, 2008 - after spending a few nights importing content, I made the switch over to WordPress v2.3.2. The main reason for the switch was to allow me more freedom with my content, and to also allow me the opportunity to start learning PHP and mySQL. What better sandbox than my own website?

Version 1.0 used some very plain default templates before I settled on the Dilecto theme from Design Disease (which is also used on Smashing Magazine). Version 1.1 is expected to arrive shortly with the official Radical Hive theme…as soon as I figure out how to build a theme from scratch in WordPress.

Radical Hive uses the Pretty Permalinks on IIS workaround.
