Radical Hive

The weather outside is perfect. No humidity, a balmy 25, and a light breeze. It’s sunny, but not so sunny that you don’t want to go to work.

This was yet another great weekend. We went to Tim and Nikki’s wedding, which was a blast. I had a really good time, and Joachim kicked ice on the mic! I’m so glad that Char and I picked him as our MC. He’s going to do great. Jeff and Tiff did this great little picture presentation, and they did a great job. Jeff shot the wedding, and I just know it’s going to be brilliant. I can’t wait to see the finished product. That boy’s got some talent.

Char and I will be looking at a couple of places tomorrow night, both in the beaches. I’m kind of hoping that the second one works out, it’s a little deeper, and is on a nice quiet street. The first one is on Woodbine, and could be a little noisier. I’ll keep the options open though.

Right now I’m exhausted. I’m going to hit the hay.

Movie of the week: American Pie 2. Not quite as good as the first, but there were some mighty fine scenes!

Game of the week: I’ve been too busy for games lately, but I’d love to either get back into Black and White (which looks awesome with the GeForce 2, extra ram, and new processor), or pick up Twisted Metal: Black

Oh my god. It’s 45 with the humidity…I’d swear it’s another five degrees in my apartment right now. GAAAHHHH!!!

Just found out from the doctor that my “cold” is an enviornmental allergy to this stupid smog/weather we’re having. It’s brutal I tells ya, brutal. Other than that, I’m healthy as an ox. Blood pressure was 130/80, pulse was a leisurely 56, and he said that the only thing we should keep an eye on is my cholesterol which was a touch on the high side, but it was so borderline that he said we don’t really need to worry about it.

My back is infinitely better, and I’ve started hitting the gym fairly regularly again. I’d love to lose ten or twelve pounds in time for the wedding (eight weeks away).

Damn, it is a HOT one!

It started out pretty bad with me leaving a bit early on Friday to take some antihisthamines and try to get this cold under control. After a brief nap and a little dinner, I went out for Tim Lamb’s stag, which involved a trip to the Peel Pub, and then a bar crawl of sorts. Yonge St. was packed Saturday night with Carrabana revellers, and it took us longer than usual to get to the bars. I couldn’t believe the number of people on Yonge St. at midnight. We went to Joanne Long and Craig Giles’ wedding on Saturday and had a really great time. The weather was perfect, and we got to hang out with Char’s university buds. This morning we had a great brunch at the hotel (which was one of the most terrific spreads I’ve ever seen), and then came home. I took care of some stuff around the house and had a quick nap, and then Char came over. We went out and grabbed some groceries and then Char headed down to Tiffany’s for Nikki’s stag. I’m gonna do some cleaning, and then head over to Char’s before picking the gals up after their crawl.

Chick’s Hardware - tom3’s Case Mods

This is one ugly assed version of what I want to do…but the gist of it is there. Replace the cheesy metal covering with a nice maple wood grain, add a nice little padded cover to the top of it, cut the number of drive bays by half, (one CD RW, one DVD drive, and one floppy drive), and add a few fans on the front of it, and we’re in business.

The “How To” segments were great, and really pointed me in a few directions that I hadn’t thought of before, for example, I can just re-use my old 486 AT case for the drive bays and the PC Slots. I should put an absorbant material on the inside to keep the noise inside the case to a minimum, and I need to think about the On/Off/Reset switches and where they will be placed. Most importantly, I want to keep the inside of the case relatively dust free, so I should consider some Hep Filters, and really go to town on the wiring to keep it neat inside the case.

Damn this is gonna be a fun little project! I can’t wait to get started!

Sync It is back up! That kicks butt.

I went to my new doctor, Dr. Goodhew, and he told me that I have a torn muscle in my back, and gave me an anti-inflammitory. I’m not supposed to work out this week, but I’m supposed to start again next Monday. He said that my hand should work itself out (he has no idea what could have caused that injury). I’m going for blood work this week, and I’ll have to go back to get the results checked out later next week. Hopefully I’ll be fully workout-ified by then. I postponed my dentist’s appointment until after Charlene and I get married (because I’ll have coverage then through her work), and I’m looking for a suit tonight.

That’s pretty much my week thus far in a nutshell.

Why is it that the big corporations can get as big and huge as they want, but because Microsoft made good products that everybody used (because they were better than the competiton’s I.E. Internet Explorer over Netscape) the DOJ freaked out? Shift Magazine this month makes the point that it’s because Bill Gates is a member of the fraternal order of the geek, and the real world’s job is to always make the geek know he’s an outcast.

Meanwhile Gasoline goes from 59.9 cents a litre, to 64.9 cents a litre, overnight…at every single gas station in the city. Where’s the government inquisition into collusion?

The gas companies would have us believe that it’s taxes…but come on now, did taxes really go up 10% overnight?

Macworld Expo - CNET.com

Though I haven’t wanted a Mac ever before in my life, this year’s MacExpo has kind of piqued my interest. It’s too bad that most of the software I like to use for programming and web development is still PC-Centric. It’s just that iMacs and G4’s look so nice now!

Sync It’s having some problems…haven’t synced my bookmarks in two days now, that sucks. Supposedly the site is down for maintenance.

SportsConnect is going gangbusters. I’ve been going crazy for the last couple of days doing spec documents and wireframes (up until 2 last night, up at 5). I’ve got two of four done, and am having big problems with the NHL. More Sports and the Front Page are done though, the Special Event Hub will be simple, and that is my last one.

Forgot to mention last night that I saw Final Fantasy on Sunday and The Score on Friday night.

The Score was quite good, in that pure popcorn, summer movie, “Gone in 60 Seconds” sort of way. DeNiro was great, Norton was awesome, and Brando was…well he was Brando, what can you say about the man? He may be full of quirks, but he’s amazing, even at 800lbs.

Final Fantasy was okay. It was a little too “Akira” for me, and most of it didn’t make any sense (probably because I’ve never played the games). None of the characters grabbed me, and other than the “Wow, this is amazing technology” aspect of it, I didn’t really enjoy it.

Now with that said, I got to see the Spider-Man movie trailer before it, AND I saw it in an IMAX theatre, with the most amazing sound system ever. Those factors go a long way towards helping one to stick it out when I might have normally given up on it.

It was a good movie weekend though…and the fact that I got the Dogma Special Edition (with some GREAT outtakes) just made it that much better.

This weekend is America’s Sweethearts and Jurassic Park III, could be popcorny goodness!
